It's completely normal to notice a light alcohol scent when you first open your diffuser, this disappears within 48 hours. The alcohol helps carry the fragrance up the sticks before evaporating, leaving your true scent behind.

Take care when inserting or turning reeds, as liquid may drip down the outside of the vessel. Wipe away any spills immediately with a damp cloth.
